Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is set to continue its ambitious modernization efforts under the ATLNext program, with one of the most significant updates scheduled to begin this weekend. As part of these enhancements, the airport will lift the first of three segments for the new South Parking Deck Pedestrian Bridge.
The heavy-lift operation, scheduled for Saturday, October 19, will involve a complex two-crane maneuver, necessitating the closure of all South Terminal upper lanes, the Ground Transportation Center, and the relocation of multiple services from 4 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 20.
Subsequent roadway closures are planned for the following days. On Monday, October 21, from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, crews will work on the second bridge segment. The third and final segment will be installed on Tuesday, October 22, from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 23. Additional work will continue into Wednesday night, with final completion efforts running from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, until 5 a.m. Thursday, October 24.
Travelers during these periods are advised to allow extra time for their journey or consider alternate transportation options. For those relying on Ground Transportation Services, such as taxis, hotel shuttles, and on-airport parking shuttles, detour signs marked in orange will guide them to temporary locations. ATL Customer Service Representatives will also be on hand to provide assistance throughout the closures.
